  15. about a drug that is currently being
  16. used to totally control someones mind

  23. Criminals in South America are using a
  24. powerful drug that turns their victims
  25. into helpless, willing "zombies" who'll
  26. do anything criminals say.

  28.      U.S. drug enforcement officials
  29. are concerned because the drug,
  30. scopolamine, is available here (cool!)
  31. by prescription.  "Scopolamine" is a
  32. potential weapon for criminals in
  33. America.  When given huge doses of the
  34. drug, a victim "becomes almost a zombie
  35. or robot who will obey any order he is
  36. given," a top drug investigator for the
  37. Columbian government revealed.  "Many
  38. victims have written out checks for
  39. their entire life's savings - which,
  40. of course, are cashed long before they
  41. come to their senses.  It's really the
  42. perfect crime.  The victim can never
  43. identify his assailants for the simple
  44. reason that he can't remember what
  45. they look like. The victim completely
  46. loses his/her memory from the moment
  47. the drug is taken, and after that he'll
  48. do everything he's told."

  50.      The drug's use by criminals in
  51. Columbia is widespread. Shockingly,
  52. 1 in 10 cases involving robbery or
  53. bodily harm is being committed with
  54. the help of scopolamine, police figures
  55. reveal.

  57.      The most common method of
  58. administering the drug is to slip it
  59. into victim's drinks.  Dr. Camilo Uribe
  60. Gonzales, a leading Bogota toxicologist
  61. says his clinic treats about 15 new
  62. victims of scopolamine each week.

  64.      "The beauty of scopolamine, from
  65. the viewpoint of unscrupulous criminals
  66. is that it's colorless, odorless, and
  67. tastless," he said.

  69.      Alarmingly, it's being used in an
  70. increasing number of rapes.  Dr. Uribe
  71. Gonzales said that in one case, a 21-
  72. year old college student drank a cup
  73. of tea she was offered by a stranger -
  74. and was found three days later raped,
  75. beaten and unconscious in a ditch.

  77.      Scopolamine is a common ingredient
  78. in motion sickness drugs and decongest-
  79. ants - but criminals give victims far
  80. higher doses than are found in those
  81. preparations, say investigators.
